There is a stretch of the South Fork where the energy shifts. The scene thins out, the hedgerows grow wilder, and the pace settles into something closer to the rhythm of the ocean itself. It is here, in the heart of Amagansett's village center, that The Roundtree, Amagansett stands as a study in thoughtful restraint. The property occupies a historic building reimagined with a clean, understated aesthetic that feels more like a well-edited private home than a traditional hotel. White clapboard, warm wood tones, and a careful attention to proportion give the interiors a sense of quiet permanence. Nothing here shouts. Everything here fits.
The room count is deliberately small, lending the experience an intimacy that larger properties simply cannot replicate. Guest rooms are designed with a pared-back sensibility, where quality materials and considered details do the work that ornament might elsewhere. Expect clean lines, soft natural palettes, plush bedding, and an overall composition that prioritizes comfort and calm over spectacle. Common spaces carry the same sensibility, offering places to settle in with a book or a coffee without the formality of a lobby. The scale of the property means that guests tend to feel less like visitors and more like temporary residents of the village itself.
Amagansett rewards that feeling of belonging. The village's Main Street is steps away, lined with independent shops, galleries, and the kind of local food establishments that locals guard jealously. The beaches here are among the most beautiful on the East End, with wide stretches of sand that feel untouched even at the height of summer. Farm stands punctuate the back roads, and the surrounding landscape carries a salt-air softness that distinguishes this corner of Long Island from its flashier neighbors to the west. The Roundtree places you at the center of all of it without inserting itself between you and the destination.
What lingers after a stay is the sense that nothing was overdone. The property operates with a confidence that comes from knowing exactly what it is and, more importantly, what it is not. There are no grand gestures here, no programming designed to fill your calendar. Instead, The Roundtree, Amagansett offers something rarer: the space and stillness to let a place as naturally compelling as Amagansett speak for itself. You arrive, you exhale, and the days arrange themselves around light, salt air, and the unhurried pleasure of a village that has always known how to keep its best qualities close.

What we love about this stay
The Roundtree feels like someone's very considered idea of what the Hamptons should be — not the scene, not the spectacle, but the quieter version you always hoped existed. The rooms are deliberately restrained, soft neutrals and natural light doing most of the work, which tells you something about the confidence behind the design. It's a property that understands scale: small enough to feel personal, composed enough to feel intentional. The gardens are genuinely lovely — textured, intimate, the kind of outdoor space you actually linger in rather than photograph and leave. Grab one of the complimentary bikes and the whole of Amagansett opens up, but honestly, the pull to stay put is real. It's the kind of place that earns its return visits not through grandness but through a certain emotional accuracy — it simply feels right.

Your own tiny cottage in East Hampton We stayed in one of the quaint stand-alone cottages on the property. It was very quiet and peaceful there, as it’s off-season. I can imagine it would be a beautiful place to get married during the summer or fall seasons, as the grounds must be lovely then. My only constructive suggestions are as follows: — all room options have queen beds; would be nice to have a king-size option — bathroom lighting in our cottage was too dim for make-up application — chain lock on the door, but no way to secure it, so dependent on just the door handle lock; surely it’s safe there, but as a city-dweller, it made me slightly anxious — there’s a kitchen with mini appliances, which is great; if you’re going to have a coffee machine, though, at least include a small packet of coffee for the first morning All that said, we would definitely stay there again. The owners are very nice.

This property is a dream!! I can’t say enough. The staff pampered us and were available for every need, from providing copious amounts of towels, turn down service, complementary soda water and tea, snacks, bonfires at night complete with s’mores and ice cream sundaes, a beach buggy or bicycles to take us to the beach, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards, they provide it ALL!! The charming town of Amagansett is just incredible. We will definitely be back. I can’t recommend The Roundtree enough!!!
