Stay Duvet
The Moultrie announces itself the way the best Charleston homes always have: with scale, with history, and with the kind of unhurried confidence that only comes from having stood in the same place for a very long time. This is a full private residence in the heart of Charleston's historic district, a stately home with soaring ceilings, original architectural details, and the generous proportions of a city that has always understood how to live well. From the moment you step through the front door, the sense of space is immediate and almost startling, a reminder that homes like this were built for gathering, for lingering, for letting an afternoon stretch into evening without anyone reaching for a reason to leave.
The house accommodates up to sixteen guests across multiple bedrooms, making it as well suited to a multi-generational family gathering as it is to a group of friends marking something worth celebrating. Rooms are individually appointed with a mix of period furnishings and comfortable, livable pieces that keep the atmosphere warm rather than museum-like. There is a fully equipped kitchen for preparing meals at your own pace, generous living and dining areas that encourage the group to stay together rather than scatter, and outdoor space that extends the home's footprint into Charleston's famously forgiving climate. A private pool offers a welcome retreat during the warmer months, giving the property a resort-like quality without ever losing its residential soul.
Charleston's historic district unfolds just beyond the front gate. King Street's restaurants, galleries, and shops are within easy reach, and the city's waterfront parks, landmark churches, and cobblestone streets reward those who prefer to explore on foot. This is a neighborhood where the architecture itself tells a story, where ironwork gates and palmetto-lined gardens mark nearly every block, and where the rhythm of daily life still feels distinctly, unmistakably Southern. Having a full home as your base changes the way you experience the city entirely. You return not to a hotel lobby but to your own rooms, your own kitchen, your own porch.
What stays with you after a visit to The Moultrie is the particular feeling of occupying a home that was designed for exactly this kind of use: for families and friends to fill its rooms, to cook together, to gather around a long table, and to step outside into a city that has been perfecting the art of hospitality for more than three centuries. It is not a curated boutique experience or a design-forward concept property. It is something rarer and, in many ways, more valuable: a real Charleston house, opened to you completely.

What strikes you about The Moultrie isn't grandness — it's intention. This is a restored Charleston home in Cannonborough-Elliotborough that feels like someone with genuine taste and real affection for the city shaped every room with a specific kind of guest in mind: the sort who notices the difference between curated and decorated. The interiors nod to Charleston's heritage without leaning on nostalgia, and there's a warmth here that keeps the refinement from feeling stiff. Three bedrooms and a properly equipped kitchen give it the bones of a home rather than a rental, which matters when you're staying more than a night or two. Being a short walk from King Street means you're close to the city's pulse without being inside it — a distinction that quietly defines the whole experience.

Girls trip 2023 was fabulous. The place was very clean and within walking distance to everything. There were many options for food, coffee, and entertainment very close by. Getting in was easy and we felt very safe . A few suggestions from a group of girls: a dresser or some storage of sorts would be helpful in the rooms. The rooms are tiny so a small organizer in the closet would be ideal. It would have been nice to be able to unpack a bit. Also, a full length mirror in the hall would be a welcomed addition to the place. We would have really appreciated being able to look at our outfits our have another mirror to do our hair or makeup. Lastly, it was a rainy day and the five of us had some difficulty getting comfy on one couch and two chairs. A couch and love seat would be soo much better for groups to curl up on , on a rainy day in Charleston. I was thinking an air mattress could have been nice too. thank you sooo much for wonderful memories. -The girls
