The name gives almost nothing away, and that feels intentional. Blind Tiger Portland occupies a handsome Victorian residence on Carleton Street in Portland's West End, where residential quiet and cultural energy coexist within a few blocks of one another. Part of the Lark Hotels collection, the property carries the spirit of a Prohibition-era speakeasy in its name and threading details, but the experience itself is warmer and more personal than any theme suggests. Step inside and the scale shifts immediately. This is a small hotel that operates with the intimacy of a private home, its period architecture preserved and layered with eclectic, design-forward interiors that feel collected rather than curated from a single catalog.
The hotel offers a limited number of individually designed guest rooms, each with its own character and layout shaped by the bones of the original house. Expect vintage-inspired furnishings alongside modern comforts, with plush bedding, curated artwork, and thoughtful amenities that reward a closer look. Some rooms feature original architectural details like bay windows or period moldings, lending a sense of place that newer construction rarely achieves. The parlor-level common spaces invite lingering, with a living room atmosphere where guests gather over complimentary coffee and tea or settle in with a book. A daily wine and cheese hour adds a convivial, social element that draws guests out of their rooms and into easy conversation with fellow travelers.
Blind Tiger Portland sits in one of the city's most walkable neighborhoods. The West End and the Arts District are steps away, placing galleries, independent shops, and some of Portland's most celebrated restaurants within an easy stroll. The Old Port's cobblestone streets and waterfront energy are close at hand, as are the food halls, craft cocktail bars, and bakeries that have helped define Portland as one of New England's most compelling food cities. The hotel's location on a quieter residential street means you return each evening to a pace that feels distinctly removed from the bustle, even though you were just in the middle of it.
What stays with you about Blind Tiger Portland is the proportion of the experience. Nothing here is oversized or overdone. The rooms are just enough. The common spaces are warm without crowding. The staff recommendations feel genuinely personal. It is a hotel that understands its city well and mirrors its sensibility: creative, unpretentious, and quietly confident in what it offers. You leave with the feeling of having stayed somewhere with real personality, a place that earns its secrecy not through exclusion, but through the simple pleasure of discovery.

Pros: The Inn is artsy beautiful, comfortable, quiet. The one fellow on the premises - Aaron - was fabulous and helpful. The host would check in via text to see how we were doing - we felt cared for and safe and wonderfully on our own too. Cons: We LOVED everything! The seamless checking in process, the beauty and comfort, the close location to stores, the snacks, the comfy bed! There was nothing to dislike!

Pros: Highly recommend! The decor is just as beautiful IRL as it is in the photos. It is a guesthouse so there’s no 24/7 staffing but the staff member I met preparing breakfast was so kind and helpful so there’s still very much a human touch! The breakfasts are served in little picnic baskets outside of your room with delicious coffee and fresh fruit. You can also text them anytime and they’re super responsive - our room had a minor issue and it was solved as soon as we let them know. The location is also great, walking distance to some lovely cafes and shopping areas. All the access are with simple codes so checking in was easy and you don’t have to fuss with key cards. Pricing was very reasonable for the area so I felt like there was great value! Would definitely stay here again - thank you! Cons: Nothing

Pros: Beautiful, large house in a great historic residential neighborhood very close to downtown, but seperate enough to feel quiet and relaxed. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast buffet nicely done, fire going in the fireplace in the morning was really a nice touch. Parking very easy in the provided area. Bedroom large and bed and bedding very comfortable. Bathroom great with a large walkin shower. Cons: Nothing!
