There is a particular clarity that comes with standing at the base of the Teton Range, where the scale of the landscape renders everything else secondary. Caldera House occupies this precise threshold, positioned slopeside in Teton Village with direct access to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The building itself is substantial without being imposing, its contemporary alpine architecture holding eight private suites that feel less like hotel rooms and more like residences borrowed from someone with exceptionally good taste and a deep affection for the mountains.
Each suite at Caldera House spans between two and four bedrooms, with full kitchens, living areas, fireplaces, and private balconies oriented toward the peaks. The interiors are warm and considered, layering reclaimed wood, stone, and custom furnishings with a restraint that lets the views do the heavier work. These are spaces designed for gathering, for families and groups who want to ski out the door in winter, hike in summer, and return to something that feels genuinely like home rather than a polished approximation of it. The scale is intimate by design. With only eight suites in the building, the property operates with a sense of privacy and personal attention that larger mountain hotels rarely achieve.
Downstairs, the ground-floor restaurant and bar anchor the social life of the property, offering a place where guests and locals converge over food and drink that draws from the region's ranching and agricultural traditions. The dining room is handsome and unfussy, the kind of space where a long dinner after a day on the mountain feels earned. Beyond the restaurant, Caldera House provides a curated concierge experience that extends well past the property's walls, arranging backcountry excursions, fly fishing on local rivers, wildlife safaris through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, and access to the broader network of outdoor pursuits that define this corner of Wyoming. A gear room and ski valet simplify the logistics of mountain life, while a rooftop hot tub offers one of the more memorable places to watch the sun drop behind the Tetons.
Jackson Hole itself is a destination shaped by extremes. The skiing is among the most challenging and celebrated in North America, the summer hiking trails wind through some of the most dramatic alpine scenery in the lower forty-eight, and the town of Jackson, a short drive from Teton Village, brings galleries, dining, and a Western arts culture that runs deeper than its tourist-facing surface might suggest. Caldera House sits at the intersection of all of it, close enough to feel connected, private enough to feel apart. What stays with you is the proportion of the place. Eight suites, one mountain, and a version of luxury that measures itself not in thread counts or marble but in proximity to something genuinely wild.

What we love about this stay
There's something about a hotel with only eight rooms at the base of the Tetons that changes the register of a stay entirely — it feels less like checking in and more like being let in on something. Caldera House holds that tension between rugged landscape and bespoke interior beautifully, with rich wooden rooms warmed by private fireplaces that make the scale of the mountains outside feel intimate rather than imposing. The ski-in/ski-out access isn't just convenient, it collapses the distance between wild and refined so completely that you stop noticing the transition. And the Italian kitchen at Old Yellowstone Garage gives evenings a specific gravity — a real gathering point rather than an afterthought. It's the kind of place that earns loyalty not through grandeur but through a quiet sense of belonging to the mountain.

We have just returned from our 4th visit to Jackson Hole and skiing from Teton Village. The atmosphere in the village improves each time we go and we'll be going back again, hopefully next year. A special mention should go to the Jackson Hole Reservations who were immediately on the case when we asked them to sort out a problem with our Condo and also the staff in Pepi Stiegler (the larger of the 2 shops) who tried very hard to resolve a problem with a recall on smoe skis that was not their fault. They were stuck in the middle between the customer and the manufacturer but did everything they could to get a solution that was acceptable to the for the customer - and succeeded.

Great location - lots to do and places to eat for the family. Even had some moose chomping on trees outside. Aerial Tram and rock climbing were 2 fun family activities.

Teton Village is so new that a lot of the area is still under construction. The golf course just opened 2 days before we arrived. The hotels that are there are extremely nice, and there is a small number of shops and restaurants to choose from. A tram is located in the village that will take you to the summit of Mt. Rendezvous, for a breathtaking view of the Teton Mountains. Its a short drive (30 min) to Jackson. Take a drive up (unpaved) Moose-Wilson Rd to the north for a chance to see some moose (we did).
