The approach alone sets the register. A private drive winds through seven hectares of Mediterranean gardens, past century-old pines and sculpted hedgerows, before the façade of Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel comes into view. Built in 1908 on the southernmost tip of the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula, this is a property whose architecture belongs to the landscape as much as the landscape belongs to it. The palace proportions are unmistakable, white against the blue of the Côte d'Azur, but the atmosphere inside is more intimate than imperial. Marble floors, soft light through tall windows, and the persistent scent of jasmine and citrus from the grounds create a sense of arrival that is both grand and deeply calm.
Accommodations range across rooms, suites, and a collection of private residences, many offering terraces that look out over the gardens or the open Mediterranean. Interiors draw on a palette of coastal whites, soft blues, and honeyed woods, balancing period elegance with contemporary comfort. The property's dining offerings anchor the daily rhythm. Le Cap, the hotel's gastronomic restaurant, delivers refined Mediterranean cuisine in a setting that opens onto panoramic sea views. La Véranda offers a more relaxed atmosphere for meals throughout the day, while Le Bar provides an intimate space for evening cocktails. During warmer months, Club Dauphin, the hotel's legendary poolside restaurant set against the rocks at the water's edge, becomes the gravitational center of the property. Its infinity pool, carved into the cliffside and overlooking the sea, is one of the most photographed on the Riviera for good reason.
The Spa at Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat extends across a generous footprint, offering treatment rooms, an indoor pool, a hammam, and a comprehensive menu of therapies. The grounds themselves are an amenity in their own right. Botanical walks thread through the gardens, and the hotel's private funicular descends to Club Dauphin and the waterfront below. Tennis courts, a fitness center, and seasonal programming round out the on-property experience. For those venturing beyond the gates, the peninsula offers walking paths along the coastline, the storied Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild nearby, and the villages of Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Villefranche-sur-Mer within easy reach.
What stays with you is the particular quality of light here, the way mornings begin with stillness and the sound of the sea, and how evenings settle into something unhurried and luminous. This is a hotel that has hosted over a century of guests without losing its sense of occasion, a place where the Riviera still feels like a closely held secret rather than a destination on display.

What we love about this stay
There's a quietness to Cap-Ferrat that feels earned, not manufactured — the peninsula itself imposes a certain pace, and this hotel leans into it rather than competing with it. It sits among pinewoods with the Mediterranean stretching out ahead, and the effect is less grand-arrival and more slow exhale. The Michelin-starred dining at Le Cap has genuine ambition, but the property never feels like it's performing; even Club Dauphin, perched by the infinity pool, keeps things grounded in the pleasures of a good grill and open sky. The spa, sprawling across its own garden overlooking the sea, feels like a place designed for people who actually want stillness, not just the idea of it. This is a property for those who understand that the most luxurious thing on the Riviera is simply being left alone with the view.
