The white façade rises from the waterline like something borrowed from another era and never returned. Hôtel Belles Rives occupies its own private stretch of the Côte d'Azur in Juan-les-Pins, a property so deeply woven into the mythology of the French Riviera that it sometimes feels less like a hotel and more like a living monument. This was once the Villa Saint-Louis, where F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald spent their summers in the late 1920s, and that romantic, slightly reckless energy still animates the place. The Art Deco architecture has been preserved with obvious devotion, its geometric lines and maritime curves catching Mediterranean light in ways that feel both timeless and theatrical. From the moment you step inside, the terrazzo floors, period detailing, and sweeping views of the Golfe Juan set an unmistakable tone.
The hotel's 43 rooms and suites face the sea, many with private balconies or terraces that place you directly above the water. Interiors honor the building's 1930s heritage with warm woods, lacquered surfaces, and a palette that moves between coastal white and deep navy. The property descends in tiers toward its private beach and pontoon, where guests swim directly from the rocks or settle into loungers just above the Mediterranean's edge. A private dock accommodates arrivals by boat, reinforcing the sense that Belles Rives exists at the intersection of land and sea, glamour and ease. The Spa by La Colline offers treatments in intimate cabins overlooking the water, grounding the wellness experience in the same coastal setting that defines every other corner of the property.
Dining here is shaped by proximity to the sea and deep roots in Provençal tradition. La Passagère, the hotel's gastronomic restaurant, occupies a terrace suspended above the waves, offering refined Mediterranean cuisine as the sun sets over the Esterel mountains. The menu draws on the seasonal produce and seafood of the region, presented with a precision that matches the setting. For something less formal, the Beach Restaurant and Bar serves grilled fish and rosé on the sand, while the Fitzgerald Bar pays tribute to the property's literary past with cocktails mixed beneath vintage photographs and memorabilia. The bar's atmosphere feels less curated than simply lived-in, as though the spirits of the Jazz Age never quite checked out.
Juan-les-Pins sits between Antibes and Cap d'Antibes, a stretch of coast defined by pine-shaded promenades, jazz heritage, and a social energy distinct from the quieter enclaves nearby. The hotel's position on the Boulevard Edouard Baudoin places it within walking distance of the town center while maintaining a sense of waterfront seclusion. Antibes and its Picasso Museum are a short drive along the cape, and the broader Riviera unfolds in every direction. Yet the pull of Belles Rives is centripetal. The private beach, the low hum of the bar at dusk, the terrace tables at La Passagère still warm from the afternoon sun. This is a hotel that rewards staying put, where the glamour is inherited rather than manufactured, and where the rhythm of each day is set by the tide and the light shifting across the bay.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular quality to a place that once belonged to someone who wrote about longing and beauty — it holds that energy in its walls. Hôtel Belles Rives still feels like Fitzgerald's Riviera, not as a museum piece but as a living mood: Art Deco lines softened by Mediterranean light, Carrara marble catching the glow of crystal overhead, and a piano bar where the clink of a well-made cocktail feels like punctuation in a longer, slower sentence. It's a hotel that rewards stillness. The private beach and the sea-view pool sit close enough to the water that the rhythm of the coast becomes your own. La Passagère earns its star not just on the plate but in the way the terrace opens the meal to the horizon. This is a place for people who understand that glamour, done right, isn't loud — it's inherited.

A genuine escape from the worries of life. We loved our view from our room and breakfast was outstanding in terms of choice, quantity and standard of coffee. A swim before breakfast each morning was convenient and a real treat.
