IZZA Marrakech arrives quietly. Set within the ancient medina, the property draws from the traditional riad form, organizing its rooms and gathering spaces around open-air courtyards where light filters through carved plasterwork and the city's hum recedes into something gentler. The architecture honors Moroccan craft with an edited, contemporary restraint. Tadelakt walls in warm, muted tones meet zellige tilework and wrought iron detailing, each element placed with intention rather than ornamentation. The effect is a space that feels both rooted in its surroundings and distinctly composed.
Accommodations across the property are individually designed, each room shaped by the building's original structure and enhanced with custom furnishings, handwoven textiles, and locally sourced materials. Beds are dressed in natural linens, and bathrooms feature traditional tadelakt finishes. Some rooms open onto private terraces or balconies overlooking the interior courtyard, while others draw their character from arched doorways and recessed alcoves that speak to the building's deeper history. The scale is intimate, offering a sense of privacy that larger hotels in the medina rarely achieve.
The rooftop terrace is the property's social heart. From here, views extend across the medina's rooftops toward the Atlas Mountains, and meals unfold beneath open sky. Moroccan cuisine is central to the experience at IZZA, with dishes prepared using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and traditional techniques. Tagines, salads, and fresh pastries anchor the offering, served in the courtyard or on the rooftop depending on the hour and the light. A plunge pool on the terrace provides a place to cool off between the warmth of the afternoon sun and the shade of potted citrus trees. Downstairs, communal spaces invite quiet reading or conversation, with seating arranged around the courtyard fountain in a rhythm that follows the natural pace of the day.
The medina itself is the destination. Jemaa el-Fnaa, the souks, and the city's historic palaces and gardens are all accessible on foot, and the property's position allows you to step between the intensity of Marrakech's streets and the calm of the riad within minutes. Staff can arrange excursions, dining reservations, and guided walks through the old city, but there is equal value in simply staying put, letting the sounds of the medina drift over the terrace walls as the call to prayer marks the passage of time.
What lingers about IZZA is its proportionality. Nothing here competes for attention. The rooms are warm without excess. The food is generous without spectacle. The architecture is beautiful without performance. It is a property that understands the particular pleasure of a well-kept riad: the feeling of discovering a private world just behind an unmarked door, where the scale of Marrakech narrows to a courtyard, a table, a glass of mint tea in the last light of the afternoon.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular tension at IZZA Marrakech that feels deliberate — traditional Moroccan craft and contemporary design occupying the same space without one deferring to the other. Intricate mosaics meet clean lines, verdant gardens frame modern comforts, and the effect is less fusion than honest conversation between eras. The culinary program mirrors this sensibility, moving between classic tagine and modern interpretations without pretending either is more authentic than the other. What lingers is the sense that this property understands Marrakech not as a backdrop but as a living reference point — the souks, the storytelling, the jasmine-laced air all feel continuous with what's happening inside the walls rather than something you leave the hotel to find.

The design was curated to the finest details. Lots of beautifully selected artwork displayed all around. The comfort and level of service were unprecedented for a facility in Marrakech, even compared to other 5 star hotels. This will be the place to go back to for us. The food they have on offer was also beyond the best expectations. The masseuses are really good and definitely worth a booking (we ended up booking them every day of our stay for how good they were).
