Behind walls that rise along Rue Abou Abbas El Sebti, just steps from the medina's beating heart, a door opens into a world that took over 1,500 master artisans three years to build. Royal Mansour Marrakech is not simply a hotel. It is a medina within the medina, a labyrinth of private riads connected by tunneled passageways and landscaped corridors where staff move unseen, where every meal arrives through hidden doors, and where the geometry of zellige tilework, carved cedarwood, and sculpted tadelakt plaster reaches a level of craft that borders on devotion. Conceived by King Mohammed VI, the property is a living expression of Moroccan artisanal tradition at its most ambitious, every surface hand-rendered, every courtyard distinct.
Accommodations take the form of individual three-story riads rather than conventional rooms, each one a self-contained residence with its own ground-floor living room, upper-level bedroom, and private rooftop terrace with plunge pool. The interiors are layered with brocade, brass lanterns, and hand-carved stucco, yet the proportions feel generous and the light moves freely through each level. Larger configurations include two- and three-bedroom riads and a grand riad of extraordinary scale, suited to families or longer stays where privacy and space become defining luxuries.
Dining at Royal Mansour unfolds across several distinct restaurants. La Grande Table Marocaine offers a refined interpretation of the country's culinary heritage, presenting traditional dishes through a contemporary lens. La Grande Table Française brings classic French technique to the table with precision and formality. La Table, set within the gardens, takes a more relaxed approach, while Le Jardin serves lighter Mediterranean fare amid orange trees and reflecting pools. Sesamo, the Italian restaurant, occupies a dramatically designed subterranean space. Le Bar is intimate and warmly lit, a place for evening cocktails and conversation. Across these venues, the range is broad enough to sustain a longer stay without repetition.
The spa spans over 2,500 square meters and draws on hammam traditions alongside contemporary wellness treatments. There is an indoor pool sheathed in mosaic, treatment rooms designed for both couples and individuals, and a hammam experience rooted in ritual rather than routine. The outdoor pool, framed by manicured gardens and private cabanas, serves as the property's daytime anchor. A kids' club and family programming ensure the experience extends to younger guests as well.
The gardens themselves deserve attention. Designed with the same intentionality as the architecture, they hold olive groves, rose beds, citrus trees, and water features that cool the air and quiet the sound of the surrounding city. Walking through them, you begin to understand the property's organizing principle: enclosure as generosity, walls as permission to exhale. Marrakech's Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the souks, and the historic landmarks of the medina are all within close reach, but Royal Mansour creates a distance that feels not geographical but atmospheric.
What stays with you is the paradox of scale and intimacy. This is a vast property that somehow feels entirely private. You may spend days here without crossing paths with another guest, returning each evening to a rooftop terrace where the Atlas Mountains hold the last of the light, and the call to prayer drifts in from somewhere just beyond the walls.

What we love about this stay
What strikes you first isn't the grandeur — it's the scent. Orange blossom drifts through ornate archways before you've even oriented yourself, and the sound of water from carved fountains creates a kind of ambient hush that makes the medina's energy feel like a distant memory. This is a place where Moroccan craftsmanship isn't decorative backdrop but the actual architecture of your experience — intricate tilework and artisan detail that carries real weight and history. La Grande Table Marocaine treats local cuisine with the reverence it deserves, presenting dishes like pastilla and tagine as something closer to ceremony than dinner. The gardens and mosaic-tiled pools feel genuinely enclosed from the city, a world turned inward. It's that rare property where tradition isn't performed for you — it simply is the place, and you happen to be standing inside it.

A great splurge A truly spectacular, elegant hotel. It is very expensive, but it delivers on every aspect of service and comfort. Having stayed in many five star hotels in Asia and the Middle East, I cannot think of any that matches Royal Mansour for quality and service. The spacious, three story riads provide privacy and the Moroccan décor/workmanship in the rooms is beautiful. The grounds are also spectacular, including the pool/spa areas. The location is good, as one can walk to the Medina. I did feel that the prices for meals were excessive, but once you are staying here you have to accept that this is part of a very high end hotel visit. So, if you are willing to splurge, you will not be disappointed by the Royal Mansour.
