Jupiter NEXT rises on East Burnside in Portland's bustling inner eastside, a modern counterpoint to the original Jupiter Hotel next door. Where its sibling leans into motel nostalgia, NEXT is clean-lined and deliberate, a contemporary boutique hotel built from the ground up with floor-to-ceiling windows, concrete and wood detailing, and an atmosphere that draws from the neighborhood's creative energy without performing it. The building's street-level presence opens directly onto one of Portland's most walkable corridors, placing you within steps of the restaurants, bars, and independent shops that define the area.
The rooms are designed with a pared-back sensibility that favors quality materials over decorative excess. Custom furnishings, Pendleton wool blankets, blackout curtains, and locally sourced bath products establish a space that feels considered rather than curated. Many rooms feature those generous windows that frame views of the city and Mount Hood on clear days. The effect is one of calm without austerity, each detail chosen to support rest after a day spent exploring a city that rewards curiosity.
Much of the social life at Jupiter NEXT centers on its ground-floor restaurant and bar, Hey Love. The space functions as a neighborhood gathering point as much as a hotel amenity, with a plant-filled interior, craft cocktails, and a menu rooted in seasonal, locally driven cooking. It is the kind of place where hotel guests and Portland locals share the same tables, and the energy shifts naturally from morning coffee to evening drinks. The rooftop terrace adds another dimension, offering an open-air perch above the neighborhood that feels distinctly Portland in its informality and warmth.
The surrounding blocks of East Burnside and the broader inner eastside represent Portland at its most vital. Breweries, independent bookstores, vintage shops, and chef-driven restaurants sit within easy walking distance, while the Willamette River and downtown are just minutes away. Jupiter NEXT doesn't try to insulate you from the city. It positions you squarely within it, offering a place to return to that matches the neighborhood's creative pulse with its own sense of intention and ease.

What we love about this stay
Jupiter NEXT has the energy of a place that actually belongs to its city rather than just borrowing the zip code. The design is sharp and contemporary without feeling sterile — there's a playfulness here, like the chalkboard doors on guest rooms that let you leave your own mark on the space. It's the kind of hotel that attracts people who love Portland for its creative restlessness and want accommodations that match that frequency. The private garden retreat offers a surprisingly quiet counterpoint to the urban buzz, with the city skyline as backdrop. And being within walking distance of Powell's City of Books feels almost too on-brand — a hotel with this much personality naturally orbits a legendary bookstore. What lingers is the sense that someone designed this place not just to house guests, but to give them a point of view.

As a frequent traveler to Portland for business, I very much enjoyed my stay the Jupiter NEXT. Clean, nice staff, chiq, great bar at Hey Love, and close to many top-tier restaurants on burnside. Will be coming back.

Our week-long stay at Jupiter Next was fantastic. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful. As a light sleeper, I was initially very concerned about noise, given online reviews mentioning nearby excessively loud bars and the fact that I would be working on my stay. However, I slept perfectly the entire time, perhaps due to choosing a high-floor room (6), as I had researched. The bar below does play loud music, but from my floor I didn't hear it at all. If you are a light sleeper and concerned, I would also suggest securing one of the high level room categories (Next Level X) to be safe. The main reason for selecting this property was its excellent proximity to all the great dining spots, which provided a more "local" feel than staying downtown. I was walking distance from several highly awarded restaurants (James Beard) and bars. I also, especially appreciated the unique in-room beverages (like sparkling CBD) and the well-stocked amenities. The downstairs bar was charming and served great drinks. I got to watch them transform from their normal decor into their Christmas theme during my stay in December. Very charming and cute. My only critique for this property is the lack of on-site amenities. Specifically, a gym would have been ideal to help burn off the calories consumed at all the nearby foodie spots. I wonder if it would be possible to convert some of the unused space on the second floor for this purpose or space at sister property that could be used? Even just a room with basic gym equipment would go a long way for me. This single amenity gap is the only thing that would make me hesitate to book again. Otherwise, I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

The hotel was very clean and chic, but comfortable, as well. All staff we encountered (valet, check-in, bartender) were so nice and helpful. The location is awesome. Restaurants, coffee shops and bars within walking distance.

Great rooms, excellent service and reasonable price. Rooms were large with uninterrupted views of the city, people at the front-desk were amazing, and there was hot and cold water available on each floor (which was so convenient). Couldn't ask for more!
