The building announces itself the way the best things in New Orleans do: without hurry, without fanfare, with the quiet authority of something that has been here long enough to belong. Maison Metier occupies a restored nineteenth-century structure on Baronne Street in the Lower Garden District, its facade a study in the deep symmetry of Creole architecture. Step inside and the mood shifts from the warmth of the sidewalk to something cooler, more deliberate. Original details meet a layered, residential design sensibility that feels collected rather than curated, as though the rooms have been furnished over decades by someone with exceptional taste and no interest in trends.
The hotel offers just eleven guest rooms, each individually designed with a mix of antiques, original artwork, and custom furnishings that give every space its own character. Crown moldings, tall ceilings, and hardwood floors anchor the rooms in the building's history, while modern comforts are woven in without competing for attention. The scale is intimate enough that the experience feels closer to staying in a private home than checking into a hotel. Common spaces encourage lingering: a courtyard where mornings begin slowly, a parlor designed for cocktails and conversation, and the kind of hallways where you pause to look at something on the wall. A complimentary breakfast is offered to guests each morning, setting an unhurried tone for the day.
The Lower Garden District places you in one of the most walkable and architecturally rich neighborhoods in New Orleans, where grand homes line Magazine Street and the texture of the city shifts block by block. You are close to the galleries, restaurants, and music venues that make this stretch of the city magnetic, yet far enough from the density of the French Quarter to feel like you have the city to yourself. The streetcar is steps away, connecting you to the Garden District, Uptown, and the Quarter without effort.
Maison Metier is a hotel built around the understanding that New Orleans does not need to be experienced at volume. It is a place where the architecture holds memory, where the scale invites intimacy, and where the rhythm of the city is best absorbed from a courtyard with nowhere particular to be. You leave not with the exhaustion of having done everything, but with the rare satisfaction of having been somewhere that asked very little of you and gave back more than you expected.

What we love about this stay
What stays with you about Maison Metier isn't the polish — it's the way the place feels like it actually belongs to New Orleans rather than merely sitting inside it. Original artwork lines the lobby alongside bespoke furnishings that feel collected, not catalog-ordered, and there's a quiet storytelling quality to the spaces that rewards attention. It sits close enough to the St. Charles streetcar line that the city's rhythm is practically at your doorstep, yet inside, the mood shifts to something more intimate and unhurried. Mornings in the dining room have a particular warmth to them, and evenings in the lounge carry the kind of low-key ease that makes you want to linger over a glass rather than rush out. It's a property that doesn't compete with the city — it absorbs it.

Great stay I believe it’s a relatively new hotel. The rooms were spectacular. The one we were in had 25 foot high ceilings. The finishes are beautiful top-notch. Coming back at 6 o’clock every day and having a wonderful charcuterie and wine spread was just such a nice touch. The staff at the front desk and outside by the front door were overly helpful. Really just a wonderful stay

Not a cookie cutter hotel-you feel it as soon as you enter the scented lobby with a huge bowl of pistachios. This place is a vibe and an experience in itself. No coffeemakers in the room, but morning drop-offs of thermoses of coffee/tea (and whatever milk you want) as early as you need. All-day $10 honor bar with basic mixers (no simple syrup I could see). Happy hour at 4 with wine and charcuterie. Speakeasy with hidden exit to SalonSalon which has the best whisky sours and elevated bar food. We found the location to be safe and quiet, a 5 minute stroll to Rouse’s Market which has a Starbucks, raw and cooked food, and 20 minutes walk to the French Quarter which made us feel better about the great NOLA meals we enjoyed. Oh, and if you enjoy a nice bubble bath after a long day out, this place still has tubs available!

Perfect location - far enough from the French Quarter so less hectic but close enough to walk there. Room was very comfortable and nice size bathroom. Also, loved the Speakeasy and service from the bar there.
