The Phoenix Park Hotel sits at the doorstep of Union Station, occupying a commanding position along one of Washington, D.C.'s most iconic corridors. Built in the nineteenth century, the building carries the architectural weight of its era while offering an experience shaped by warmth and Irish hospitality. Named after Dublin's Phoenix Park, the hotel threads its Celtic heritage through every detail, from the spirit of its public spaces to the convivial atmosphere that greets you upon arrival. This is a property that feels connected to the capital's pulse without being consumed by it.
The guest rooms blend period character with modern comfort, offering a sense of place that reflects the hotel's heritage. Traditional furnishings sit alongside updated amenities, and the accommodations range from well-appointed standard rooms to more spacious suites suited for longer stays or special occasions. Throughout the property, the design favors classic textures and rich tones over contemporary minimalism, lending the spaces a lived-in elegance that feels appropriate for a building with more than a century of stories within its walls.
The Dubliner Restaurant and Pub anchors the hotel's social life and stands as one of Washington's most recognized Irish pubs. It is a gathering place in the truest sense, drawing hotel guests and locals alike with its dark wood interiors, hearty fare, and live entertainment. The pub carries a genuine warmth that resists the performative, offering traditional Irish dishes alongside a well-curated selection of whiskeys and draft beers. Whether you settle into a booth for a full meal or find a seat at the bar for a late-night pint, The Dubliner delivers an experience that feels rooted and unpretentious. It is, in many ways, the heartbeat of the Phoenix Park Hotel.
The location places you within steps of the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress. Union Station, directly adjacent, connects you to the broader city and beyond via Amtrak and the Metro system. The National Mall stretches westward within easy reach, and the neighborhoods surrounding Capitol Hill offer a blend of historic row houses, independent restaurants, and tree-lined streets. For travelers whose time in Washington extends beyond meetings and monuments, the hotel's position allows you to explore the city's cultural institutions and residential quarters with equal ease.
What stays with you about the Phoenix Park Hotel is its particular brand of hospitality. There is a steadiness here, an unpretentious generosity that feels more personal than polished. The property does not chase trends or aspire to spectacle. Instead, it offers something increasingly rare in the capital: a place where history, comfort, and genuine welcome converge without ceremony.

What we love about this stay
There's something disarming about a hotel that feels like it belongs to another city entirely — step inside and the energy of D.C. gives way to something quieter, more European in its composure. The lobby reads like a place with real memory, ornate but never overwrought, with a warmth that suggests decades of guests leaving their impression on the atmosphere. It's the kind of property where proximity to the Capitol and Union Station feels almost incidental to the mood within. The bar at evening has that particular quality of a room people drift toward naturally, where conversation hums beneath chandeliers and the day's wandering settles into something sociable. What stays with you isn't grandeur — it's the rare sense that history here isn't performed, it's simply present.

Phoenix Park is a very nice hotel, located close many locations. Hotel was very nice and located close to Union Station and about a mile to the National Mall so we were able to walk to many locations. The Dubliner Irish Pub was attached so it was nice to have an Irish Coffee at the end of the day. There was a very nice coffee shop a block away so there were plenty of food options. Hotel also had breakfast, but we didn't eat there. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Decor was tasteful and I don't want to say elegant, but it was very nice. Also, I appreciate that they had two comfortable chairs to sit in. I hate sitting on the bed.
