The approach is quiet. You arrive along the eastern shore of Lake Washington, where the waterfront town of Kirkland gives way to a property that feels less like a hotel and more like a well-kept secret among those who know this stretch of the Pacific Northwest. The Woodmark Hotel & Still Spa sits directly on the lake, its architecture low and composed against a backdrop of water, sky, and the distant profile of the Seattle skyline. There is no grand declaration at the entrance, just a sense of scale that feels deliberately intimate, a property of roughly 100 rooms designed to preserve the feeling that you have the shore to yourself.
Guest rooms and suites orient themselves toward the lake with a clarity of purpose that shapes the entire stay. Many feature private balconies or patios, and the interiors favor warm, residential tones over anything overtly theatrical. The library suite, with its deeper footprint and collection of curated volumes, speaks to the kind of guest who values a slower pace. Throughout the property, public spaces are appointed with the same restraint, fireplaces and soft seating areas arranged to encourage lingering rather than passing through. The lobby lounge serves as a natural gathering point, while the outdoor terrace extends the living space to the water's edge, where Adirondack chairs line the shore and the light shifts across the lake through the afternoon.
Still Spa anchors the wellness experience with treatments that draw from the surrounding landscape, incorporating botanicals and techniques rooted in the region. The spa is compact but considered, a place designed for decompression rather than spectacle. For dining, the hotel's restaurant offers Pacific Northwest cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and the bar program leans into craft cocktails and regional wines. Weekend brunch carries its own following among locals, and the lakeside fire pits become a point of gravity in the evenings, where guests gather with wine in hand as the water darkens.
Kirkland's waterfront galleries, boutiques, and restaurants are within walking distance, and the hotel maintains its own private dock for boat arrivals and sunset cruises on the lake. Seattle is a short drive or water taxi away, but the rhythm here tends to discourage departure. What The Woodmark offers is not a base camp for urban exploration but a destination in its own right, a place where the proximity of water recalibrates something internal. You leave with the memory of mornings spent watching the lake from your balcony, the particular silence of a shoreline that belongs, for a few days at least, entirely to you.

What we love about this stay
What strikes you first is the unlikely intimacy of it — a lakefront hotel that feels less like a resort and more like a well-kept secret tucked into the heart of a small city. The private beach on Lake Washington sets a tone that's unhurried and personal, with the Seattle skyline hovering in the distance like a reminder of the world you've quietly stepped away from. There's a groundedness here, a commitment to place that shows up in the spa's locally sourced treatments and the farm-to-table sincerity of Carillon Kitchen, where the lake fills the windows and the food feels honest rather than performative. It's the kind of property that rewards stillness — grabbing a beach cruiser, drifting along the shore, letting the afternoon dissolve without agenda. Not dramatic, not flashy, just deeply comfortable in what it is.

Stunning waterside location. This property deserves its 5 star rating amidst the Seattle properties in the region. Staff is anticipatory, eager to fulfill late night snack cravings and pre-book valet check out to alleviate stress. Impressed. Highly recommend for repeat stays and special events.

Rooms facing the lake are lovely. Beautiful setting. Nice and quiet of an evening that you can sleep with your window open. Also it's a dog friendly hotel, nice to see a hound wandering about here and there or stretched out by the fires.
