Hotel Theodore occupies a corner of downtown Seattle that has been welcoming travelers for more than a century. The building itself carries that history in its bones, but the interior tells a different story altogether. Step inside and the lobby functions as a living museum of the Pacific Northwest, filled with curiosities, collections, and artifacts that speak to the region's scientific, industrial, and natural heritage. Display cases hold geological specimens, vintage instruments, and found objects arranged with the care of a gallery curator. It is a hotel that treats its public spaces as an invitation to look closer.
The 153 guest rooms are designed with a palette that draws from Seattle's landscape: warm woods, deep greens, and industrial textures that feel modern without abandoning the building's character. Rooms range from cozy standards to more expansive suites, each outfitted with custom furnishings and curated artwork that reinforces the property's identity as a place where design and storytelling converge. Thoughtful touches like locally roasted coffee, premium bath products, and high-speed wireless throughout reflect a property attuned to both comfort and the rhythm of how contemporary travelers actually move through a hotel. The on-site restaurant and bar, Rider, anchors the ground floor with a menu rooted in the bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Wood-fired cooking drives much of the kitchen's output, and the space itself balances warmth and energy in a way that draws both hotel guests and locals to the bar through the evening hours.
Seattle unfolds immediately outside the front door. Pike Place Market is a short walk away, its stalls overflowing with flowers, fish, and the particular chaos that has made it one of the most recognized public markets in the country. The waterfront, Pioneer Square, and the city's arts institutions are all within easy reach, placing Hotel Theodore at the center of a neighborhood where culture, commerce, and daily life overlap without pretense. This is not a hotel that asks you to retreat from the city. It positions you squarely within it.
What stays with you after a night at Hotel Theodore is the sense that someone thought carefully about what it means to be in Seattle rather than simply near it. The collections in the lobby, the regional commitment in the kitchen, the textures in the rooms: each detail points outward toward the landscape, history, and creative energy of the Pacific Northwest. It is a hotel that rewards curiosity, and in doing so, becomes one of the more distinctive places to stay in a city that has never lacked for personality.

What we love about this stay
There's something grounding about a hotel that doesn't try to outshine its city but instead absorbs it. Hotel Theodore feels like it belongs to Seattle — its interiors reflect local craftsmanship without making a spectacle of it, and the overall atmosphere carries that particular Pacific Northwest balance of creative energy and unhurried calm. You sense the property's history without it being narrated at you. The small touches land well: a locally stocked honor bar in the room, a proper coffee machine that respects a city obsessed with the stuff, and a pillow menu that suggests someone here actually thinks about how you sleep. It's the kind of place where you return after a long walk through Pike Place and feel genuinely relieved to be back — not because it's grand, but because it's yours for the night.

The location was excellent. The staff accommodating. Difficulty reaching front desk and varying levels knowledge depending on who answered. I called to ask if housekeeping could be sent to turn the mattress to the non pillow top side (I have a bad back and prefer a firm mattress). The young lady who answered the phone said, “ I don’t think we can do that”, but I think she responded before understanding. I explained that I’ve never encountered a hotel that couldn’t. Housekeeping did come up shortly to assist. They were very helpful The restaurant was convenient and nice. Good bar. Tasty breakfast.
