Lovely desert spot with plenty of shade during the hot sunny day. Beautiful and peaceful.

The high desert has a way of stripping things back. Drive far enough from the city and the landscape starts to simplify itself, trading noise for wind, clutter for horizon, until what remains is essential. Mulberry & Pine sits in this territory, a modern residential retreat near Joshua Tree where the architecture meets the land on its own terms. The property carries a clean, contemporary design sensibility, all straight lines and natural materials set against the wide, arid terrain that defines this corner of the California desert.
The home is built for small groups and couples seeking distance from routine without sacrificing comfort. Interiors are thoughtfully appointed with a minimalist warmth, balancing open living spaces with carefully chosen furnishings that feel considered rather than curated for effect. Large windows frame the surrounding desert landscape, pulling the outdoors into every room and blurring the threshold between shelter and sky. The kitchen is fully equipped for those who prefer to cook in, and the living areas are designed to encourage lingering, whether over morning coffee or late-evening conversation.
Outdoors, the property extends into the desert itself. The yard offers unobstructed views of the rocky terrain and distant mountain silhouettes that shift in color as the day turns. There is space here for stillness, for reading under shade, for watching the light move across the valley floor. The region's defining attractions are within reach. Joshua Tree National Park, with its iconic boulder formations and namesake trees, anchors the area, while the small creative communities nearby offer galleries, vintage shops, and casual dining that reflect the desert's independent spirit.
Mulberry & Pine is not a hotel, and it does not try to behave like one. It is a home positioned at the edge of one of California's most singular landscapes, designed for guests who want to feel the scale of the desert without roughing it. The rhythm here follows the sun. Mornings are cool and quiet. Afternoons are bright and slow. Evenings settle in with a clarity that only open sky and dry air can provide. What stays with you is not any single detail but the feeling of space itself, generous and unhurried, as though the desert had made room for you.

There's a particular kind of quiet that only the high desert offers — not empty, but full of wind through Joshua trees and the faint scent of sagebrush — and this 2.5-acre property in Pioneertown is built entirely around that feeling. It's the kind of place where indoors and outdoors blur on purpose: a cowboy tub for mornings, a fire pit for evenings, an open-air shower that makes something as mundane as rinsing off feel like a small act of freedom. The design leans into comfort without competing with the landscape, which is the smartest thing about it. Movie nights happen on an outdoor projector under a sky so dark the stars almost feel intrusive. It suits people who want desert solitude but not austerity — close enough to Pappy & Harriet's and the park, but remote enough that the silence at night feels genuinely earned.

This place was amazing. The home and patio were both perfectly cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot when you’re wanting to relax and unwind. The view was absolutely incredible from every angle as well which just adds to the whole experience. Kitchen and bathrooms were nicely stocked. The host was great to work with and the overall experience was just great. Definitely recommend staying here!

Place was perfect for your weekend concerts at Pappy and Harriet’s! Just a few minute drive to P&Hs, Yucca Valley, restaurants etc. They have comfortable beds and all three bathrooms have nice showers. Would stay again if back for a weekend in the area.

This property matched the description and was even better than we expected.
I appreciated details like dimmer switches, bedside tables and lamps, lots of storage and space, a large and comfortable sofa, ample electrical outlets, and a well-stocked kitchen with plenty of cooking spices and tools.
Outside, the scenery was gorgeous, well landscaped, with multiple areas to comfortably relax and socialize or stargaze. We saw bunnies, lizards, and plenty of birds.
Kate was our friendly and superb contact from the management company. She checked in on us and responded promptly to any questions we had.
Neighbors were very quiet. Windows and doors in the livingroom, hallway, and kitchen/dining areas do not have shades or curtains, (at least not that I saw) but the property is situated in a way where I really did not feel exposed or on display. The bedrooms had strong blackout curtains and sliding glass doors to the outside. Beds and linens were very comfortable.
1000% recommended!
