Thompson Seattle rises at the corner of First Avenue and Stewart Street, a twelve-story building of glass and steel that opens directly onto the energy of Pike Place Market. The lobby sets the register immediately: clean lines, contemporary art, floor-to-ceiling windows framing Elliott Bay. There is nothing fussy about the design. It is urban, confident, and deliberate, the kind of hotel that treats its downtown setting not as something to escape from but as something to absorb.
The 158 guest rooms carry that same sensibility. Interiors are warm but pared back, with hardwood floors, custom furnishings, and oversized windows that bring in generous natural light and cityscape or water views. Many rooms look west toward Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains beyond, a panorama that shifts with the weather and the hour. Suites expand the footprint with separate living areas, and the overall feel across all room categories stays consistent: modern, uncluttered, and grounded in the textures and tones of the Pacific Northwest.
The rooftop is where Thompson Seattle most clearly distinguishes itself. The Nest, perched on the twelfth floor, is an open-air rooftop bar with sweeping views of Elliott Bay, the waterfront, and the city skyline. It is one of Seattle's most compelling perches for a drink at golden hour or well after dark, and it draws locals as readily as hotel guests. Below, Scout PNW serves as the hotel's ground-floor restaurant, offering a menu rooted in Pacific Northwest ingredients and a dining room that connects naturally to the sidewalk life outside. Together, these two venues anchor the property's social identity without overpowering it.
Location is, in many ways, the hotel's most powerful amenity. Pike Place Market sits just steps from the front door, and the surrounding blocks hold an ever-shifting constellation of independent shops, galleries, and restaurants that define downtown Seattle's creative identity. The waterfront, recently reimagined with new public spaces and pedestrian access, is a short walk west. Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square, and the International District are all easily reachable, giving guests an immediate sense of the city's range and rhythm.
What stays with you about Thompson Seattle is the clarity of its proposition. It does not try to be a retreat or a resort. It is a city hotel that respects the city it occupies, designed to put you in direct contact with Seattle's waterfront energy, culinary culture, and restless creative spirit. The views from The Nest linger, the light off the bay follows you home, and the feeling is less of having visited a hotel than of having briefly lived inside the best version of a Seattle evening.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular pleasure in staying somewhere that feels genuinely woven into its city rather than just perched above it. Thompson Seattle manages both — elevated and embedded. The floor-to-ceiling windows don't just let light in; they turn Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains into something you live alongside, a shifting backdrop that reframes your morning before you've even left the room. Pike Place is close enough to feel like your neighborhood, not a destination, and that proximity gives the whole stay an easy, unhurried quality. Then there's The Nest, the rooftop bar where the design stays out of the way just enough to let the views do the talking. It's the kind of place that rewards you for simply showing up and paying attention — a hotel that understands Seattle's quiet intensity and reflects it back without overperforming.

Location, Style, Service. In spite of "Snowpocalypse" in Seattle during our stay (Heavy snow, very cold temperatures), everything was great at the hotel, and all service was top notch.

Friendly, all the way through the place. Really good vibe. The restaurant is pricey but excellent with table staff and wine waiters who know their stuff. Very good bathroom.
