The elevator climbs past the thirty-fourth floor and the city begins to tilt. By the time the doors open, London has become something panoramic, something almost abstract. Shangri-La The Shard occupies floors thirty-four to fifty-two of Western Europe's tallest building, Renzo Piano's crystalline tower rising above London Bridge. From this altitude, the Thames is a silver thread stitching together centuries of architecture, and the rooms themselves become observation points as much as places to rest. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap every guest room and suite, framing views that stretch from the Tower of London and St Paul's Cathedral to the distant sprawl of the city's outer reaches. The design is restrained and contemporary, with clean lines, marble bathrooms, and a palette that refuses to compete with the scenery beyond the glass.
The hotel's 202 rooms and suites sit among some of London's most distinctive dining and drinking spaces. TING, the signature restaurant on level thirty-five, draws from British and Asian culinary traditions, offering breakfast, weekend brunch, and evening dining against a backdrop of the city's western skyline. The lounge at TING extends the experience with afternoon tea served high above the rooftops, a ritual that feels appropriately theatrical at this elevation. On the fifty-second floor, GŎNG bar occupies the highest hotel bar in Western Europe, its cocktail program matched only by the vertiginous views through the Shard's angled glass facade. It is the kind of space where a drink at dusk becomes an event in itself, the city's lights switching on in slow sequence below.
The infinity pool on level fifty-two is perhaps the hotel's most singular feature. Swimming here, with the London skyline visible through floor-to-ceiling windows, collapses the distance between interior comfort and the vast urban landscape outside. A fitness centre and treatment rooms complement the pool, offering a wellness experience shaped less by tropical escapism and more by the particular stillness of being suspended above one of the world's busiest cities. Private event spaces and meeting rooms are available throughout the property, each benefiting from the same commanding perspectives.
The Shard itself stands at London Bridge, one of the city's most connected and historically layered neighborhoods. Borough Market sits just steps away, its stalls and restaurants forming one of London's great culinary gathering points. The Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe, and the South Bank's cultural corridor are all within walking distance, while the transport links at London Bridge station place the rest of the city within easy reach. Yet for all the energy at street level, Shangri-La The Shard exists in a different register entirely. It is a hotel defined by altitude and light, by mornings when fog rolls beneath you and evenings when the city becomes a field of illumination. The experience is not about retreat from London but about witnessing it from a vantage point that makes even the familiar feel revelatory.

What we love about this stay
There's something disorienting, in the best way, about checking into a hotel that begins on the 34th floor — the lobby, the welcome, the entire experience starts where most buildings end. London doesn't just surround you here; it unfolds beneath you, a living map seen through glass walls that make the sky feel like part of the room. It's a hotel that trades the coziness of ground-level arrivals for a kind of quiet vertigo, and it works precisely because the interiors stay restrained — soft linens, marble, warmth underfoot — letting the city do the performing. Sipping something at GŎNG, London's highest bar, you're not just elevated; you're suspended in the city's energy without being tangled in it. That tension between intimacy and altitude is what lingers.
