The former Midland Bank headquarters rises from the corner of Poultry and Prince's Street with the kind of architectural command that stops you mid-stride. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1924, the Grade I-listed building is a monument to interwar ambition, its Portland stone façade giving way to vast banking halls, soaring columns, and original details preserved with an obsessive fidelity. The Ned London occupies every inch of this landmark, transforming one of the City's most celebrated buildings into a hotel, members' club, and social destination that pulses with energy from morning until well past midnight.
The 252 rooms and suites are spread across the upper floors, each designed with a distinct character that nods to different eras and sensibilities. Expect handcrafted furniture, rich textiles, and considered palettes that range from deep jewel tones to softer, more restrained schemes. Some rooms look out across the rooftops of the City, while others face the quieter internal courtyard. The original architectural bones of the building remain visible throughout, with heritage details woven into contemporary layouts that never feel like pastiche.
The ground floor banking hall is the building's dramatic center of gravity, housing nine restaurants and bars beneath its monumental columns and vaulted ceilings. Millie's Lounge serves as the grand social living room, while surrounding it are distinct dining concepts spanning Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, British grill, Asian, and Italian cuisines. Upstairs, the rooftop pool and terrace offer open-air views across the London skyline, with a rooftop bar and restaurant that shifts in mood as the sun drops behind St. Paul's. The Ned also houses a full spa with a hammam, steam rooms, and an indoor pool, as well as a barber shop and grooming salon. For members, additional private spaces and lounges extend the experience beyond the hotel's public offerings.
Sitting at the junction of the Square Mile's financial heart, The Ned is steps from the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, and a dense constellation of historic lanes and modern towers. The City has long been London's power center by day and something of a ghost town by night, but this building has reshaped that rhythm entirely, drawing guests and locals alike into a neighborhood that now feels as alive at ten in the evening as it does at noon. The proximity to Shoreditch, the Barbican, and the Thames adds layers of cultural access that extend well beyond the financial district.
What lingers after a stay is the sheer scale of what has been preserved and reimagined here. The Ned is not a hotel that whispers. It occupies its space with the same confidence Lutyens designed into it a century ago, every barrel-vaulted ceiling and bronze flourish now serving a building that refuses to be a museum. It is a place where heritage architecture meets genuine social energy, where a Tuesday evening in the banking hall carries the unmistakable hum of a city that has never quite learned to slow down.

What we love about this stay
The Ned doesn't feel like a hotel that borrowed history for decoration — it feels like a building that simply refused to let go of its former life. The grand banking hall, with its towering marble columns and crystal chandeliers, now hums with the energy of multiple restaurants rather than transactions, and there's something genuinely thrilling about that repurposing. You sense it in the rooms too, where vintage design choices sit alongside modern comforts without either apologizing for the other. The atmosphere shifts as the evening arrives — live jazz fills the air, and the whole place takes on a quality that's less curated nostalgia, more living memory. It suits the kind of traveler who wants London to feel cinematic without feeling staged.
