Where Greenwich Village history meets a quietly modern place to stay
Reserve this StayWalker Hotel Greenwich Village
There is a particular feeling to turning off a busy Village block and stepping into a lobby that knows its own history. Walker Hotel Greenwich Village occupies a 1901 building on West 13th Street, its Beaux-Arts facade a handsome counterpoint to the neighborhood's brownstone streetscape. Inside, the hotel leans into the creative spirit of its surroundings without performing it. The interiors draw on early twentieth-century design cues, layered with warm woods, custom millwork, and period-inspired furnishings that feel collected rather than curated. It is the kind of place where the architecture carries its own atmosphere, and the design choices feel deliberate without announcing themselves.
The hotel's 113 rooms range from cozy to spacious, each outfitted with custom headboards, vintage-style fixtures, and marble-clad bathrooms. Layouts vary across room categories, with options including king rooms, doubles, and suites, some offering sitting areas or added square footage that gives the stay a residential quality. Bedding is plush and considered, and the detailing throughout suggests a property that values texture and materiality over flash. Windows frame the Village streetscape or quiet interior views, grounding each room in the rhythm of the neighborhood outside.
Downstairs, the lobby lounge operates as both a social anchor and a retreat, with seating arranged to encourage lingering over coffee or an evening drink. The on-site bar offers a cocktail program rooted in classic American mixology, the kind of dimly lit room where conversation comes easily. The hotel does not attempt to be a sprawling resort or a scene-driven destination. Instead, it functions as a thoughtfully appointed base for experiencing one of New York's most storied neighborhoods.
Greenwich Village hardly needs an introduction, but it rewards those who walk its streets without a fixed agenda. The hotel sits within easy reach of Washington Square Park, the jazz clubs and independent bookshops of Bleecker Street, and the restaurant-lined blocks of the West Village. The cultural institutions of lower Manhattan unfold in every direction. This is a neighborhood shaped by writers, musicians, and artists over more than a century, and the Walker quietly reflects that lineage in its design and sensibility.
What stays with you is the proportion of things. The rooms are not oversized but feel right. The service is present without hovering. The building itself carries a weight and warmth that newer construction rarely achieves. Walker Hotel Greenwich Village offers the rare experience of staying somewhere that feels genuinely part of its neighborhood, a hotel that belongs exactly where it stands.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular kind of confidence in a hotel that commits to an era without turning it into costume. The 1920s references here — dark wood, leather, art deco lines — feel genuine rather than theatrical, as if the building simply refused to let go of its original personality. It's a Greenwich Village hotel that actually feels like Greenwich Village: layered, a little intellectual, connected to the creative restlessness of the streets outside. Washington Square Park is close enough to shape your mornings, and Society Cafe, with its market-driven menu, gives you a reason to stay in for the evening rather than chase reservations elsewhere. What lingers is the atmosphere — intimate, warm, rooted in a neighborhood that rewards people who prefer character over spectacle.

WOW! Great hotel, great staff, and great management! Hotel breakfast was the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had! The management corrected a miscommunication over breakfast quickly. Lillian handled our reservation over the phone, she truly cares for her guests. Everyone working there was so kind. The environment was warm and welcoming, the other guests were polite and friendly. Great location near subway. We usually stay in Times Square, but will be staying here from now on!

The hotel is in a really nice, and convenient, location. There's plenty of places to walk and eat around, even late at night. The staff was very kind, and friendly. As others had mentioned, the rooms were fairly small, but that's New York. Everything felt well maintained, specifically very clean. Some of the wallpaper was peeling in the room, but that wasn't the end of the world. The lobby always felt very lively, with jazz students coming to play seemingly every night. Very enjoyable atmosphere, and I'd happily stay here again.

We were a little apprehensive of after booking and read the reviews. I think that there is a lot of good things about this hotel so I will start there. 1- the rooms are small, but well appointed bathrooms are good size and the bed is very comfortable. We stayed in the winter so the comments about the air-conditioning. We could not adjust, but the rooms are comfortable in temperature. 2-the location is great although we are walkers and we walk all over Manhattan. I love being in Greenwich Village. They're great bars and restaurants all around and really close by so you don't have to venture far. There's shopping just a few blocks away as well so you can stay away from the Times Square downtown mayhem if you want 3- they give you free water as many bottles as you want and there's complementary snacks in the room. You do get a $20 credit towards a restaurant. 4- our first impression of the restaurant was not great because the service wasn't so great but the food is amazing and once we did get service, the service was good. It just took him a while to come to our table, but I highly recommend this place for breakfast

A wonderful stay in a beautiful hotel. Very impressed that 10 minutes after entering our room we received a phone call from the front desk making sure everything was ok with our room and reassuring us that should we need anything there was always someone at the front desk 24 hours. The breakfast was delicious! I think the best omelette I've ever had.
